Hey All!
In my meanderings around eBay I happened on a maintenance manual and a parts manual for a bus manufactured by Southern Coach Manufacturing Company of Evergreen, Albama.

The manuals didn't go for a very high price so I bid on them and won.

Now that I have them, I wonder if anyone knows anything about this company.

The model covered is as follows:

Model: S-36-M
Engine: Waukesha 140GKB
Transmission: Spicer 6252
Wheel Base: 196"
Overall Length: 356 1/2"
Width: 95 3/4"
Overall Height: 116"
Turning Radius: 34' 3"

This is probably just some more stuff I collect to clutter my bus up with!

Thanks,
Dallas

Thanks, Nick,

I checked them out before I posted and found that they are a charter/tour company.

The Southern Coach I've been looking for was actually the manufacturer of this bus.

I wonder if JL Vickers or RJ Long would know anything about them.

tekebird

very small company, went the way of the DODO in the early 50's I beleive.

Very regional as far as sales went.

Doubt there are too many still on rubber let alone running.

Thanks Doug!
That was what I was looking for.

I would like to find out just what year these manuals are for, since there is no copyright date or dates of any kind in them.

One interesting lead is that the engine, being a Waukesha, points to it being one of the first.

Thanks again,
Dallas

Dallas, if you are still interested in Southern Coach Mfg. Evergreen, AL, I have one (probably only one still running) that we converted to a motor home. Have used all over U.S. since 1980 with absolutely no problems.
They were definitely well built!  We have had many campers, but none compare to our 1955 Southern Coach!
In fact, we are offering a $500 reward to anyone who finds another one for us to convert for our grandson.
See YouTube "RARE BUS CONVERSION' for a video.
The company started in 1941 and was bought by Flxible Bus Co. in 1956. Too much competition!!! It was a better-built bus than Flxible, which is still considered a good one today. I am sure I have the last one running and how it runs!!!!!! A great company!
They were built for city bus use by cities such as, San Antonio, TX, Seattle, WA, Orlando, FL, so they WERE ALL OVER THE U.S.
If you have more questions, I can probably answer them.

I have to say. You probably get the prize for resurrecting the oldest thread ever!

I'm sorry to say, but Dallas is no longer with us. http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=30130.0
