Onan muffler or aftermarket?

I have an Onan 6.5 that needs a muffler and it currently only has a pipe mounted to the head and pointed downward. I'm planning tentatively on mounting in the old condenser compartment and I'm wondering, for the use in the bus should I make my own exhaust system fresh and use aftermarket muffler mounted under the bus or should I buy an Onan muffler and then try to add my system after that? I wonder if that might cause too much back pressure.
I'm not sure, can you easily add another exhaust and muffler system to a factory exhaust or is it better to start fresh while I have it bare? I wanted to be able to add a vertical stack as others have talked about for stationary use.

Also, does anyone have a hot tip for gel or other type bushings to mount on to dampen vibration?

Any pics of others installations would be useful for the 'tarded boy to get ideas off of.

Dave,

As I remember I used a tractor muffler on my old Onan. I don't think it makes much difference if the connection is not unusual. Mufflers are pretty much mufflers and the OEM can always be counted on to be overpriced by a considerable amount, especially Onan now.

I gave up on trying to isolate my Onan, it shook the whole bus. I replaced it with a Honda EV6010, now all is quiet and vibration free.

My bus came with an onan in the condenor bay,  the stock pipe will work and doesent cost much much at the lincoln engine place.

I'm going to a diesel in the bay so I can make it quieter. even though te propane onan is not much louder than the AC running.
It's all fun and games til someone gets hurt. ;)

My Onan has the fact muf.  The muf isn't located in the gen bay for heat reasons I am sure.

That down pipe ends in a 90* and my muf is rather slender and long to afford ground clearance.  The only muf I can think of offhand that would be of similar OD is a "Cherry Bomb" glass pack but their inlet/outlet dia is much bigger.  A nice big auto type will condense a whole lot of water as it will never get really hot enuf but then they cost $15 or so.

I would like to know what you finally work out.

JC Whitney has all sizes and shapes of mufflers. I get almost all my mufflers from them and even got the two for the DD 671 from them.

You might try Tractor Supply if you have one in your area, the one in my town has a good selection of mufflers. Maybe you could find something that will fit. You can also find them on the web and order that way.
