Last Tuesday, the first day of our vacation, included a phone call from an RV owner, who backed into our 4107 in the storage yard.  Apparently, he destroyed the driver's side windshield, damaged the wiper arm, and broke at least one headlight.  He may have dented the breastplate (there was already one dent from the previous owner, so I don't know if there's a new dent or not.)  Since we were out  of town, he was going to go back over there and cover the area with plastic/duct tape, to keep any rain out.

The next morning, there was a call from the insurance adjuster ... "we'll have to tow the vehicle to where ever you want to get the windshield replaced, you can't drive it like that."  I told him we'd deal with it when we got back to Dallas.

We just flew home this afternoon, so I'm going to go over to the coach in the next couple of days, then get with the other guy and the adjuster (they're both out of town until mid-week).

My plan is to have a mobile glass guy come out and replace the windshield onsite, and see what to do about the other damage.  So, the question .... where do we get 4107 windshields, and can any major glass company handle this?

Thanks.

Arthur -

Luke @ US Coach or Curved Glass Distributors.

I'd call Luke first. . . he'll probably also have any other parts you might need.

Think that RV owner learned a lesson about backing a big rig??

Thanks.  I also got a call from JLV last night, suggesting Luke & Curved Glass.  I'll head over to look at the 4107 today or tomorrow (catching up from a week out of town first).  John also recommended replacing all the rubber moulding & lock bead, something I hadn't thought of.

The owner admitted he wasn't watching his backup camera, and he was backing into the vacant space in front of us - to get his truck out of his own space.  The nice part is that he went to the front office to get our contact information, and called us quckly; and he was going to cover the hole to keep the coach watertight.

Arthur, if you buy from curved glass buy 2 it doesn't cost any more shipping for 2 than 1 the shipping is outrageous from those folks.I would still check Jefferson he stocks a lot of GM parts and has a sharp parts guy for GM buses           good luck

wow, thats an awefull phone call.

if the breastplate is damaged I think Former member Doug Wotring has one, at least I thought I saw one at his parts storage barn when I visited.  might as well fix it right if it is an insurance job.

I'd heard from Doug that he had a breastplate.  The way the "hitter" described the damage, he may have been looking at a dent I inherited from the previous owner.  As much as I'd like to replace the breastplate because of the dent, I don't know whether to hope he whacked it, or missed it and what he saw was the old damage (count the rivets).

If it's the old damage, it looks like it'll be the windshield/moulding; wiper arm, and headlight.  Probably enough that he'll want to go through his insurance, but that'll be his option.  What I can't figure out yet is how he did the damage without contacting the bumper - and he didn't mention the bumper at all.

I'm going to try to get over there tomorrow, with camera, and that should tell the story.  I'll meet the hitter and adjuster later this week.

In addition to being hit by an honest person, the other good news is that we had a good vacation - a theater trip to NYC.  Combination Christmas & tenth anniversary present to Phyllis.  We only get a vacation every 4-5 years (the other time off is spent taking my mother-in-law from Massachusetts to eastern Canada, and you sure can't use the word "vacation" in that context.)
