Paul,

It's much taller.  If you can afford the height, go for it.  The RV "saucer" models only add about 4"-5" to your overall height.

I think the omni is good for regular local TV stations. But what about satelite? Is there a comparable omni directional satelite receiver for lots of channels? My daughter likes Cartoon Network, I like CNN, my son likes the baseball/sports channels, we all like Discovery and History Channels. It would be great to be able to watch this stuff while cruisin on the road

Satellite TV requires a highly directional high-gain antenna, typically a parabolic "dish" reflector about 18" in diameter.   It must be accurately aimed at the satellite(s) from which you receive your service.

Dishes are available that automatically aim themselves at the correct satellite.  Tons of information here in the archives; this thread is focused on over-the-air digital TV.

Thanks Sean I will do the search. For what it's worth, I had one of the batwings too...... ah, ur.. UNTIL I found out they do not make for good tree limb cutters (just like the earlier post) Good advice if you use these is to make absolute sure they are down when you drive!

Happy,

They make a 5 inch square dayglow orange plack with a clip.  It goes on the crank up lever for the antenna...when the antenna is down.  When you raise the ant you transfer the "signal" to the subvisor in front of the driver.  I never had a problem after that.  I used to read the ant check in my preunderway and just say OK and it wasn't once.... get the plack.

Seems that when I was looking for an ant I asked friends about that saucer and was told to save my money.  I never owned one of those, haven't seen one in years(no real meaning there) and actually forgot about them when I said that an OMNI would be difficult to locate.  I didn't see one in Camping Worlds site though, or at least "I didn't see one".  Said that twice on purpose cause I have cateracts in both eyes.:( ;D
