Hello,

I need to buy a pair of 8D batteries for my MCI9 and was wondering if anyone had a good source.
Looking forward to hearing back from you all!

Most Napa auto parts stores have them for a good price, That's where I bought mine.

Costco or Sam's Club will be a good place for 8D's

I have a brand new one here from Napa but shipping would be prohibitive.

Bought ours at NAPA and can't complain about the price.

But one is leaking acid around the posts where they enter the battery case.

Napa says they can get Exide to warrant them, but they were bought a year ago.  Giving me back 10 percent on a battery doesn't deserve the term waranty to be mentioned.

Are you sure?

The 8D form factor was developed in the 1930s.  Today's technology gives you more battery in the Size 31 series than the 8Ds that they put in your coach at the factory.  That means cheaper, lighter and smaller.  I think I paid 95 bux each for them at Sam's Club, and they work just fine.

I suggest that you look at the ratings sticker on your 8Ds and see how close you can get with 31s.

trucks are set up with a least 3 for a 12 volt system and if you have a 24 volt system I am thinking you will need 4.  two may start the engine if it fires fast and in a warm climate and also more batteries , more cables to worry with.

Before you buy gr 31...Did You Know

Which mean the high output battery such as gr 31 with 925+ CCA and 8Ds are not suitable for us users.

About group 31 batteries...they are available from 635 CCA to 1125 CCA. So just because it say "group 31" does not mean you are getting same size CCA of the other bus nut's group 31 battery.

Group 31 battery are must more available at stores than 8D. It is much easier to carry & installed and while under warrantee, you get replacement quicker due to popular inventory.

About 2 or 4 gr 31 starting batteries for 24v buses...It depend what climate you be in...cold climate 30°F region, suggest 4 batteries. Otherwise 2 batteries will be OK.

No matter which battery you choose from gr 31 to 8D...you need an 110v block heater for less than 40°F cold start to be reliable.

For anyone's information there a New DES 24 Volt battery but only 535 CCA. At $260

John4104 I made the reference to 4 group 31's on a 24 volt system because my coach came from the factory with 4 31's and if 2 will work for you as Gerald suggests go for it but me I would not replace 2 8D's with 2 group 31s as they say here do it your way

I have two 925cca size 31 Interstate batteries to start my 8V-71.  If it is a problem, I can hit a jumper button on my dash to include the two 8D Lifeline deep cycles to help starting.  Unless you still have the ovre the road A/C system on your bus, you do not need the big 8D's.  If you have a 12v system, two or three will do.  If you have a 24v system you'd have to use either 2 or 4 batteries.  Good Luck, TomC
