Lights???

We are looking at mounting lights on the top of the bus. The reason for this would be so we could see low hanging branches. Driving down a country road at night can be tough. We aren't sure how low the branches are hanging. My solution, so we could at least see, is to mount two lights on top right next to our first air conditioner.

Thoughts???

Here are a couple of links that I found. http://www.autoanything.com/lights/69A1694A0A0.aspxThis one seemed to look pretty good. I like the small size of it. Thoughts???
Here are a couple of other options. Some of the other options on this page looked pretty neat. http://www.autoanything.com/lights/20A52236A1.aspx I am not sure which would be best. What about other products? Does anybody have any experience with something at all similar?

Thanks in advance.

God bless,

John

PS, I just changed my link. Sorry I had two of the same. The first one is fixed now.

I have not thought of adding lights for going forward, but they would be handy for backing into capsites at night.

Should be a very simple install. If you can, get one in a 360 swivel so you can point in other directions if needed.

PIAA lights are very nice and come with a good warranty. I used to have a couple for my truck back in the day. They are worth the money.

Jjrbus,

I also would like to add lights to the back...eventually ;D. I just thought that forward lights to see branches would be very helpful.

ANY ideas???

OC, thanks. That is a good idea to get swivel lights.

God bless,

John

I remember wanting the feature to be able to dim them or have some sort of variable output.

Any forward facing headlight or driving light over 54" up from the ground is illegal.  But with anything like this, it is a matter of getting caught.  Be discrete about the usage.  I know that Sean also has high mounted lights.  Good Luck, TomC

I have a remote operated spotllight mounted on top front of my 4106.  It works great for your purpose, plus very handy for other things as well.  Here's a link to mine, but there are others out there, some with a wireless remote you can operate from outside the vehicle - handy for accident scenes, etc.

akbusguy has the right idea and it isn't even illegal.

I have an old type swivel spotlight I found on ebay which I plan to mount on the driver's corner just like the original buses used.

This can even be turned to the rear for limited use.

Not least of all, they are way cool!!

The type of light I got on top of the bus is a marine light. It is a spot & flood light. It has worked out great on several occasions.

You all got me thinking now that I need one. How cool would it be to get a wireless remote with it. Put a wireless camera on there and your set to check out your perimeter.  ;D

What you are talking about is called a "work light" and it is found on backhoes and other equip. The WL has a broadly spread beam and is not a "spot light".  Because it has such a widely spread beam you don't have to mount it on the roof....it will work just fine for your purposes if mounted on the bumper and cocked just a little UP.  The other application for those pointing rearward is called "DOCKING LIGHTS".  Rear facing back up lights are broadly defused also so the logic applies.  I have two of the docking lights mounted on the rear of my coach to augment my back ups and they work grandly.  What I am missing is a light that shines down the side and to the rear and is broad beamed at will illuminate such things as a branch that is headed for the midships roof edge.  Don't ask why that would be such a sticking point.

Work lights are rubber mounted and very durable...round or square and also come in halogen sealed beams replaced without taking anything apart with tools.  55 Watts and $25 each anywhere.

Controlable remote spots are a different subject and I know nothing but I want one.

Ours is very similar to Pete's Fantasy Eagle. It's a marine swivel llight that works well. It's mounted on top in the front, if you look close you can see it.

I have seen some lights on the sides of the high end Prevost motor homes, usually about three or four running along the sides. Probably to give light for getting into spaces at night, they are angled down to point the light toward the ground. Does anybody know where to find these ? I have been unsuccessful in finding these on the interent. Thanks. Happy New Year.
