Question about air conditioner lube oil for Nick or those with the answer

I am just getting the front of My jeep wrangler toad back together after the wife bagged an eight point and had to disconnect the condenser to remove the front clip.  I replaced the receiver dryer and would like to know what is the proper oil for a 1995 r134 system.  At the auto bone they have 5 different types of oil and have no clue what each one is for!  Help someone.  One oil said esther the others were pag followed by 100 150 or something like that.  Bailout Me out somebody.  John

What does the poe stand for?  Is that the pag 100?  Thanks, John

John ;POE or PAG will work for you I just prefer the POE www.ackits.com will explain the difference in the 2 products that will be easier than me to try and explain                                     have a great evening

  Pull a good vacuum
  Use POE(ester oil)
  Weigh in ref. charge
on a side note POE is very hydroscopic I would get a fresh new can of oil

Hi John,

The guy's are correct.  Follow Dwayne's instructions and don't forget to leak test in a vacuum before charging. 1/2 hour at 30in vac will tell if a leak exists.

SYNTHETIC POLYOL ESTER "POE" is the correct oil for R-134A.

One more question guys, will the poe mix with what ever oil is in the system?  I do have a vacum pump and gauges , I used to service systems on welding heads which were not like normal air conditioning systems.  Just don't know about this new automotive stuff.  I have replaced the receiver dryer and presently have the system under vacum.   Thanks for the help, hope to see all in arcaidia.  John

If the system already had 134a, then I wouldn't worry about residual oil.  If you are switching from R12 to R134a, then you should rinse the system with nitrogen to push out any residual oil. 
I recently talked to auto A/C guy and the theory for switching from R12 to R134a is getting more and more lax.  He said just change the receiver dryer, oil in the compressor, change freon fittings, vacuum down and re charge.  Good Luck, TomC
PS-synthetic oil is standard petroleum oil that is re processed to a more exacting standard to be more uniform.

Tomc, the problem is that I have no clue what is in it.  It was 134a from the factory.  It is factory original and I can not find anyone that can tell Me what it had in it from the factory.  If poe is missable with pag oil I guess it does not make any difference.  With My current luck I will probably use exactly the wrong oil.  It is beyond Me why all of the different chemicals to do the same job.  The reason for the oil is that I have changed the receiver dryer because I had to open the system to change the front clip due to the wife bagging a eight point buck coming from work.  When it rains it pours.  Any advise is much appreciated.  Regards John
