If I put a rockwell trans in how do I bypass the switch that tells the engine that its in high gear to get higher rpms in high gear like all other gears. How do I locate the switch also, Its a rockwell 10 speed. Thanks someone help I hope I havent wasted money.

Dunno yet.  Need more information.  Are you hanging this tranny behind an mechanical or electronically controlled engine?  Makes a difference.

If you are using a mechanical non-electronic diesel, then just ignore the switch.  Your Rockwell will then be just another 10-speed.  What model tranny is it?

If your using an electronic controlled diesel, them I'm not sure.  Perhaps you could also just ignore the switch.  But, that might affect your engine somehow.

Did Eaton buy out Rockwell, or was it the other way around?  Maybe the factory can help you out into how to defeat the rpm limiting feature in 10th gear.

Perhaps it's totally intergrated somehow and must be incorporated into your engines electronics.  Or maybe not.  I simply don't know. Sorry. Some help please.  :) :) :)

Thanks, Its an electronic trans and engine. I know where the speed sensor is and i was told that it would run but would shut down without it. I dont know if the same would happen for the high gear switch, or how to locate it to try.

Don't know what power train you have, but this sounds like something that is deprogramable on the engine computer. You may still need the sensor as there are several other parameters that the computer uses this info for. Call your engine mfg.

I am confused.  It sounds like you may have an automated mechanical transmission.  The Eaton Roadranger AutoShift is that type of transmission.  I think Rockwell/Meritor makes the same type of transmission.  Neither of those options would be found in most of the buses we own (unless you are strange enough to stuff one in an older bus -- like I did  ;D)

If by chance it is an Autoshift, there is no "switch" that determines high gear.  That is done by the transducers and the computers.  They know what gear you are in and what your power demands are (TPS sensor).  I would think the Meritor would function the same way.

More confusion on my part.  These automated transmissions increase the HP when the unit has the cruise control on (guess that would typically be top gear).

If you have a mechanical, non automated, transmission my comments do not pertain.

If you are switching transmissions, and the old transmission is not electronic, then your engine will probably not  know the difference.

As you can tell from my rambling, we really need to know more about your transmission (give us the specific model) and if this is a combination that was factory designed to be a combination.

What year and brand engine?  Was the bus a manual before you swapped transmissions?    DDEC units have a com link that operates off the speed sensor.   Your speedo and cruise are sensed by the same unit.  
As HB sez, need more info.  
Describe what transmission you removed and what sort of bus you are working on.
In the meantime, how many loose wires are hanging after the transmission swap?  You may be able to emulate the switch with no problems by closing or leaving the circuit open.  
Fire it up and see what happens.  The worse of it will be an engine code indicating the switch isn't functioning.  Probably no shutdown on a transmision switch.   Shutdown codes generally relate to engine destroying conditions such as coolant overheat, low or high oil pressure/temps, and low coolant.  Manual transmissions don't typically set shutdown codes.  Autos don't either, however, they'll set 'do not shift' codes...that'll ruin your whole day.   ;)

Thanks everyone that tried to help with the switch problem. I was sold the wrong trans for what I was trying to do so the shop I got it from took it back, thank goodness.
I think I have the 4104 Ive got sold. If I do I already have a Silver Eagle waiting, so Ill be asking for alot more info because it still is set up for passengers.
