I accidentally added 5 gallons of gas to 10 gallons of diesel.  How much more gas should I add or whats the ratio that will still burn the maximum amount of diesel.  I don't want to waste the Diesel/Gas.  I would like to burn it in the Genrac generator.  On the other side how much Diesel can I add to burn it as Diesel??  I know your not supposed to mix Gas in Diesel, but at these prices I would sure like to salvage any that I can.

How it got mixed is another story.......

Don't feel too bad about mixing up fuels.  The storys that could be told.  In a light aircraft, it could prove to be very fatal.  Let me tell you about.........  I am still not quite sure which way you want to go with this.

If mixing diesel fuel with automotive gas, you can safely go at least 10%, as long as the device being run isn't absolutely vital for human safety and stuff.  Some power loss/smoking (knocking?) may be experienced.

The other way also applys.  As an example, my old '82 VW Rabbit Diesel could safely run 10% gasoline to create an emergency winterized fuel for very cold weather.  The owners manuals says sosss.  However, with the new...

...computerized diesels, I do not now.  In an old 2-stroke Detroit, perhaps 10% gasoline will not hurt in an emergency, but not for vital installations if you have a choice in the matter.  Maybe others will have better info.  :) :) :)

So at a minimum he'd have to add 35 gals of Diesel to use it as diesel, or 85 gals of gasoline to use it as gas, and both those are marginal?

Seems to me that putting a few gallons of gas in a full tank of diesel was a common cold-weather trick to keep the diesel from gelling.

If you've got a bus with a nearly full tank, I bet you could just add those 15 gallons and be fine.

WOW! despite the cost 75.00 or so in fuel, I would not risk it in any of my equipment.  Use it for parts cleaner or something.

that savings of 75.00 could cost you a thousand or more

John...It happens to the best of us....Don't ask.  If it's only 15 gal. Get some gas cans and cyphon. Then as you use the equipment add a little of the mix till it's gone.  Worked for me, and it was a lot more than 15 gal...Don't ask.  Cable

Back when I was driving a truck we would put about 5  in 100 to keep it from gelling in the wenter time.

Never had any problems with that mixture.

I would drop it in the bus if it were almost full, that is if you tank is 75 gallons or more.

I don't think you would have any problems.  If you are afraid you might add it a little (5 gl) at a time ever time I filled the tank.

Now add 9 gallons of Veggie Oil and you should be good to go running a generator or tractor ( Non-essential ) use only.

( Yes I said 9 gallons.. The totes only hold 4.5 gallons or 35 pounds. ) 2-totes

Think you better use it as diesel. 5 gallons of your special mix to a 100 gallons of diesel should get rid of it over time. Gas doesn't belong in a diesel but it will keep you running at 40 below.

Think the gen set is not the place to use the mix, the big engine would be better, so would 3 gallons to 100.

Probably don't want diesel to go through a catalic converter either.
