All right Nick!  Great minds and all that.   The very first thing I told my brother was that he had Colorado river water coming out of his tap and that was some incredibly rich stuff in terms of soil salts. :o  I told him his condenser would carode and fail prematurely.  The good news for you guys in AC is that those people with marginal systems are expediting their failure.  The heat out there is absolutely scary in the summer.

I don't know why dunking it in the same stuff would be less harmfull but I will stand advised on that.

Thanks Nick,

John

From Fire school (if I remember correctly), heat is absorbed by the surface of water droplets. Therefore a lot of smaller droplets have more surface area than a few larger droplets and therefore absorb more heat.
I know when we felt the radiant heat from a fire as we got closer to it, turning the nozzle to a fine spay gave instant relief and you could feel the temperature difference around you. Of course, we were not worried about mineral build-up LOL.  Jack
