Modifyin MC8 Battery compartment to hold house batteries too

Hey,
Has anyone modified the existing engine battery compartment on an MC8 to hold engine and house batteries(like 4 golf cart batteries)?
It appears that if I remove the old sheet metal ducting from the top of the compartment, I will end up with a rectangular compartment that is just about perfect for 2 8D's on an upper shelf with a slide out tray and 4 golf cart batteries on the bottom with a slide-out tray. I am just concerned that there might be something I am not expecting behind the ducting. Anyone tried this before? What do you think?
