I spoke with a gentlemen tonight who was a brother to the owner of Big Country Coach Conversions out of Visalia, California. The shop is gone but I am wondering if anyone out there ever had a bus conversion done by these guys? Quality, cost, customer service. You know the typical due diligence stuff.

Grant -

My goodness, there's a name from the past - "Big Country Coach Conversions".

I've actually been in their shop, back in the mid-80's or so.  Wasn't a very big place, you could only get three or four buses total on the property, two of which had to remain outside.   IIRC, one of the owners of Orange Belt Stages, Thoburn Haworth, had something to do with BCCC, but don't remember what it was.  (I was working for OBS at the time.)

I remember looking at a converted 4106 that they had on consignment, one of the first I'd seen with an automatic in it - in this case, a VS-2.  Only remember this coach because I had a conversation with Thoburn about it as we were standing there looking at the transmission swap.

Can't help you much more than that, sorry.   :'(

Different outfit.

Big Country Coach Conversions was a small company located in an industrial park on Goshen Ave in the NW part of Visalia, CA, during the mid-1980's.  Didn't last long.

The Country Coach you're thinking of is based in Junction City, OR.

I have a big country conversion.  It was converted for the previous owner.  He could tell you alot more about the whole deal if he would choose to.  I could call him and see if he would be willing to talk to you.

For the most part the coach was done very well.  The cabinets are real raised panel oak and I've heard the builder use to build for yachts.  Everything is first cabin.  I would have done some things different but isn't that the case with all of us?  This coach was 90 percent finished when the business went out of business.  There was a coach for sale I think on e bay that talked about the converter.  What else can I tell you.  Maybe I can post some pictures if your interested.

Go ahead and post what you have. I would be interested. The gentlemen I have spoken with is starting to advertise in the area regarding his work. He has a mobile RV repair and tells me of his bus conversion background.

Thanks

Grant
