I have a chance to buy a new cat transmission model cx 31 at a super price and need to know if this is the same as a allison b500 and if anyone knows anything about this transmission i don't want to waste my money thank to all

It is not the same as a B500.  It is a Cat transmission.  It has some pretty good specs at 525 HP and 1770 lbs torque.

I might be a little bit concerned because they have only been out at most two years or so.

These Cat transmissions were just introduced last year and haven't yet seen them in big rig trucks.  They are basically the same transmission as the off road truck transmissions.  Cat just basically changed it from a cast iron case to an aluminum case to take some weight off.  While they are excellent transmissions and they are designed very much like the Allison, if you have a problem, who besides Cat could work on it?  And like all Cat stuff, would most likely be even more expensive than the Allison.  What engine would you put it with?  These transmissions are designed to be behind the Cat engines and their low end torque.  If it is a Series 60 Detroit, you could get by with it.  If it is a 2 stroker Detroit, I wouldn't even consider it.  Good Luck, TomC
