The March 2020 issue of Bus Conversion Magazine is now available to view and/or download from our website.

The feature article this month is Lucid, The Magic School Bus.  Zeno and Ashley Reed hit rock bottom and were completely broke.  They had nothing, but scraped together enough money to buy an old school bus.  Over the course of the next several months they converted their school bus into their new home using materials they obtained from various sources.  Their bus does not have the luxuries of a shower and some other amenities, but it was more than they had before and they thought it was Magic.  Read their story and see how they are now helping others realize their dream.

John Swartley wrote a historic article on Bus Drivetrains.  He tells about how drivetrains started out as chain driven system and then transformed into a driveshaft propelled mechanism.  Then came the transmission with two forward speeds and one in reverse.  Buses traveled at night with the help of oil lamps, a far cry from the LED headlamps we have now.  Now we have systems like the Integrated Detroit Powertrain that does all of the shifting for us to maximize fuel economy.

Paul von Fange discusses the history of Scenicruisers from 1954 and on.  Passengers had body-contoured reclining easy chairs and perfected air conditioning to improve comfortable bus travel. They had some of the first restrooms complete with running water, wash basins, a toilet and a mirror.

Wulf Ward discusses slowly Loosing Electrical Power in his bus after leaving home in Chicago.  He explains how he had to duct tape jumper cables to the side of his bus back to his Jeep toad which he kept running to power his system so his headlights would light up the road ahead.
