I stumbled upon a gem if you are ever near Georgia. On the south edge of Augusta Ga, lies several hundred acres of what used to be Augusta International Raceway. The track was open for less than 10 years, and closed in 1970. Although the oval tracks are long gone, the drag strip is still in place behind a new elementary school and the 3.1 mile road track is 85% in place. The city of Augusta purchased most of the property, and built ball parks, tennis courts, a library, and educational centers. But the best part- about 20 full hookup campsites for 25-30 bucks a night. It's not on many campground lists yet because it's too new and owned by a city.

You can walk or ride bikes on much of the track with 20 degree banking and kayak in the lakes that were intended for boat racing. The only thing to consider if you reserve sites is that there are 2 loops of campsites. The "outside" sites are some of the best you can find, but the inside sites have the sewer, water and electric on the wrong side of the bus (my driveway was level, paved, and 70x20!!). They did some bandaid repairs to  stretch utilities to the correct side of the driveway, but pick an outside site if possible.

It's called Diamond Lakes and it is on Reserve America. A great destination if you have any interest in racing or history and abandoned superstructures. Imagine building a 3 mile long paved track 45 feet wide in a great location and only running 2 races there before closing. Makes investing in an old bus feel like a brilliant financial move!

We have lived in Dearing for about 13 years and I never heard of this.

About 2 hours East of ATL on I-20 and 4 miles south of I-20.
Got Electricity and Water for 4-5 coaches.  Less that a mile to a
dumpstation.  Stop by and sit a spell.
