Saw these at Interstate in Milwaukee. About two dozen former military engines. Couldn't get a straight answer on the plan for them, but it sounded like they were putting them in storage. For what? Couldn't tell.

Really interesting to see them all lined up like this.

Parts,there are no new heads or cranks available for the 8v92. I have 2 of those myself with the big @$# air compressors

Great for parts especially 8V92 Jake Brakes, you could get a complete jake assembly from one engine. Which I had one for the jakes. A year ago the military was dumping a few hundred of them on govliquidation.com. There is a place in Texas advertising on ebay jake take out for $499 plus $150 for the tall valve covers.

Yep you can use a lot of parts from those, blocks,heads Ecm's to air throttles,those look like standard truck engines,they huge oil pans 10 to 12 gals capacity some of the stuff is strictly military useless for average person,to bad they never used a 6v92

According to MTU website, 6V-53, 8V-71 & 8V-92 are still being made for military. But then-we can't get those parts? Good Luck, TomC

They are just made for the NATO equipment those are going away also,the Navy has started to re power now getting away from the 53 series

It would be so boss to have a dozen of those.  Imagine the fun building up really hot 8V92TAs and selling off some spendy spare parts to pay for it all?  Then what to do with the engines?  Who knows!  :)

First thing that comes to my demented mind is putting one into a crew cab 5 ton GMC Top Kick type cab and chassis and building up a really big pickup truck.  600 hp.  12,000 pounds.  10 Speed Roadranger.  :)

120 MPH.  Jake Brake.  High Speed Runs To Las Vegas Come to mind.

No, no, you have to think bigger - bolt four of them together with double turbos each and go to the salt flats with 3000 hp.  :o

They are going cheap now even the DDEC models,at the marine base in Barstow CA there are 1000's setting in a field waiting to go on the auction block

Defense Logistics Agency handles all disposals from the military services.

DLA has a co-located site at Barstow.

Engines are probably the only thing we will recoup some money on by selling.

What price will these old Detroits sell for?   What models are available?  What is their value?  How many does one have to buy?  Can you just buy one?  Are these old old MUI or old DDEC engines?  How much stuff is military specification only?  Can these engines be revamped for Bus Conversion use?  So many questions.  I have family kinda close to Barstow CA.  :)

Be nice to find some 353T Silver MUI engines.
