I build my own LED light fixtures using the CHEAPEST leds I can get from ebay. I built some of my shop light fixtures using LED strips and a computer power supply. My failure rate is extremely low.
I also got a good deal on led tubes to replace the 4 foot florescent tubes in my shop. I use the ones where you throw away the ballest and rewire it for 120v I'm very happy with those. I even made my own fixture to use just one of the tubes.

Did you balance the leds with individual resistors?

I have but, it's cheaper and easier to use stuff ready for 12V.
Here are the  lights above kitchen counter. Total cost for all ten lights, less than $20.

This is the same light only with diffuser I made for the bathroom.

More on LED lighting.  Years ago we used just 12vdc automotive incandescent.  Then moved up to quartz halogen bulbs.  The incandescent were fine.  The EARLY quartz halogen had way too much ultra violet spectrum for long term eyeball safety.

Then the early LED bulbs came about.  A revolution?  But were/are they safe?  How were they regarding the soft "yellow" light our eyeballs have evolved to enjoy ... and endure?  Is the old LED stuff even safe to use on a long term basis?  Does anybody know?

Enter the current LED lighting.  Is THAT a soft "yellow" light easy and safe on our human eyeballs?   Is the newer LED expensive lighting safe to use?  I dunno which is why I am asking.  Our home now has LED lighting.  Yikes!  Something we do not think about.

Reason I ask is that I am scheduled for another eye exam next week.

Just realized this was a cooler thread.  I ranted about LED lighting.  Off topic. I am sorry.

I have one rule for lighting... if it doesn't produce 1200 lumens, it belongs in the trash.

I converted my puck lights to LED. So it went like this-the puck lights originally had 20w halogen lights-bright but also hot. Then I converted them to 10w Xenon. Then converted to LED that are 3w. So with my 8 puck lights went from 160w to 80w to 24w total-and the LED's are warm, but won't burn you like halogen will.

Years ago, somebody was selling Tritium flashlights. It'd be cool if you could get that as lanterns.
