I own a "5" (not a 5A) and when I purchased it 5 years ago I did less due diligence than you have.

I don't regret it at all, although I didn't know how to adjust the clutch and it went out of adjustment when driving and slipped once, I have also spent a fair amount on maintainance - refurbing the radiators, rebuilding the water pump (preventative) , new brake linings, run the rack etc.

Even I've heard of Ted in Williams and have been meaning to drop by there to get various portions of my bus renovated.
