I'm looking strongly at deleting the aluminum side mouldings on my MC9, to allow me more freedom with paint schemes.
I really see no structural as these are lightly fastened with screws spaced sparsely.

They do corrode on older buses along the bottom. Can't you paint them as is if they are not corroded? What would you replace them with?

They're not corroded at all, I just don't care for them.
No need to substitute them, the side panels under them are smooth.
I've seen buses with the fluted skins replaced with smooth skins, and the mouldings are deleted.

They are generally there to cover the joint between top and bottom sidings.

I think he means the rub rails along the bottom foot or so of the sides.  They are there to protect the sides from car bumpers and the like.  No reason I can see to not delete them, except for car bumpers, shopping carts, brush, large dogs, etc...  They were anodized aluminium with a clear coat, the clear coat is shedding on mine.

I removed mine, I figured that was just some where to hold dirt and a good place for corrosion to start. plus I like the smooth side look.

Thanks guys, It makes it easier to keep it shined up when it's garage kept and not out in the PA weather and salt.
