4104 speedometer

Anyone ever fix the original speedo on their 4104, mine hasn't worked since I got it, I see the electro mechanical sender above the transmission which I believe is for the speedo and have the original gauge in the dash. Is it usually a repairable reliable effort or time to move onto a gps unit, Thanks

Check to see if the little drive pin is intact. They often will break. It should be 1 1/2 or so long. If it is broken, make sure the adapter isn't seized.

I have repaired our original speedo on the 4104 several times over the last 4 decades. Not the same problem every time. The sending unit on the transmission twice and more recently the electrical wiring at the dash. When it goes to working again, it doesn't for long! When it works its fairly steady but in some of the mph ranges it likes to bounce around. With all this being said, during the recent engine in-frame rebuild I left off the original speedo parts. I will eventually uninstall all the original speedo related items and do have some spare parts besides. If your interested in trying to save/restore your original system - you are welcome to all of the original speedo system incl. spare parts I have. I need to purchase a replacement speedo before I tackle the speedo head on the dash. In case your interested.

Thanks Dan, sounds like it might be better to look into an alternative speedo system too, I was hoping you would chime in since you have had yours so long, maybe there is a way to put a sensor on the drive shaft or one of the wheels,instead of a digital gps unit, I like gauges with needles anyway,Thanks
