I was looking at old bus brochures and came across this. Someone thought it would be a good idea and it seemed like it would have many advantages. But I never saw one or even how may of these were sold. can't help but think they would actually cost more to operate in local transit since you may need to hire someone to ride in the trailer to keep an eye on potential turds.

I saw that exact rig at a big rig show many years ago. While it was unique and did cost way less than a true bus, it never caught on. One reason-even though it had air ride, it didn't ride very well. And another reason-had to have a conductor on the trailer with electronic voice connection to the front. Good Luck, TomC

That particular example was the short-lived version operated by Orange County Transit Authority back in the (I think) late 1980s.   I remember them running along Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, along with the last of the New Looks and RTS buses  -  it seems a very long time ago that 2-strokes were in transit service!   In Cuba there are/were the legendary Camel Buses, a similar concept but much larger.   I assume that they were not cost-effective if a separate conductor were needed, or did they have automated turnstile entry?

Something like that may have worked at an airport tarmac shuttle or even rental car shuttle.

In this age of electronic fare collection, and proof-of-payment honour systems, and Operator assaults continually trending upwards...

Perhaps the timing is all that's wrong here?

Ride quality is a suspension issue... using truck parts was the mistake.

anyone have some seed money kicking around?

happy coaching!

The people who assault bus drivers and passengers ought to be riding on one of these buses instead https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/49/145371578_2a3ec071a6_b.jpg .
Tractor drawn buses have been around in some form forever but seem to be more suited for off highway use.

No big deal. Looks like a single axle truck pulling a windowed trailer with seats.

Okay, but how do they get the horses inside?
