There seems to be a lot of chatter about re powering or engine mods lately. I think it would be nice if we could have a sticky that ran for 2-3 weeks on this topic. Maybe we could here from people who have done this and what they had to do to make it work, would they do it again? That sort of thing. ;D

Just a thought, Duane

Hi Duane,

Sure, I don't have a problem with this.  What did you have in mind?

Hi Nick,

It just seems there is a lot of people considering a re-power on this board, I am in the middle of installing an M11 myself. I think it would be real helpful if we had one place people could share there stories of there own re-power projects. Info like engines used, chassis mods, electrical issues, things that worked well and things they would have done different, stuff like that.

When people post they are considering a re-power they get bombarded with all kinds of reasons not to re -power. Let's hear from those that have done it and are happy or not happy with the results.

Thanks, Duane

I would like that also.

I will probably be more inclined to go the same direction as tom C

Keep my 8V71 and do upgrades

BUT

I love reading about the repowers and the good and bad that goes with it

I also am curious about the L10 cummins ( I believe it is mechanical injection )

Would make for an easier install wouldn't it???

Duane, I haven't looked real close, but the little cummins engines are use extensively in garbage trucks with allison transmissions. They run the hydraulics off the front of the crankshaft. In my area these units are scrapped @ about 10 years and are available real cheap. Might be a good way to get everything you need at once.

Thanks Larry,

But I already have my doner truck. I drove it home for $4000.

But that is a good reminder for any one considering a re-power to get a complete running doner truck of some kind.

There are good deals out there if you spend the time to look for them.

Good luck to all, Duane

I don't think we need a sticky.......the post are searchale and when a new post the entire thread is put to the top.

Stickes just make navigating the threads more time consuming.

Hi Tekebird,

I will leave it sticky only for a short while. When it gains more posts, then we can let it go.

Thanks
