I have a 2000 yr 60 series 12.7. I have a extra turbo off a egr engine.  If I install it what effect will it have on general engine performance?  Is there a difference? The non egr turbo needs rebuilt because of excessive end play.  Bob

Ken can tell you for sure but I believe the sensor has to be changed also

Bob I wouldn't use the EGR VNT turbo on a non EGR engine. First if it's from a 14 liter it's sized wrong for your displacement. The VNT EGR turbo requires other components, a Variable Pressure Output Device "VPOD" to operate the vane actuator on the turbo (It looks like a waste gate but performs a very different function), different wiring harness and different ECM programming. You don't have to do all that if you remove the actuator and install some type of adjustable rod in it's place, then you'll to experiment with the length to get the boost correct. Locking the VNT into a fixed position defeats the only, and I mean the only thing a VNT is good for, building boost at low RPM. I'll eventually replace my VNT with a regular turbo. Even though I like the no lag of the VNT it is mechanically complicated and it's related components are just something else that can fail. Plus I think the VNT turbos are restrictive at higher RPMs/boost pressure. Clifford mentioned sensors. An EGR/VNT turbo has 2 sensors. A speed senor and a outlet temperature sensor. You won't need these if you choose to use it with the vanes locked in a fixed position. The best turbo for a stock 12.7 is the Borg Warner 171702.

Ok got it. And understand.  To fess up: It is already on now I need to modify or get other turbo rebuilt.  Never ending projects. What max boost should a pre egr engine develop?    Bob

Zero-clearance here on the board rebuilds turbo's also but I forgot the name of his company
