My Crown has a Stewart Warner mechanical tach, with the requisite extremely long multipiece tach cable.  I'm assuming it requires some sort of service.  What would that be, how often, how?  I want to retain my old, faded tach since it matches my old, faded speedo and gages.

I use to use the white Lubriplate on our Brill's looooong speedo cable. Pull it out, clean it in some solvent and lightly coat it with grease of choice as you start re-installing it. I would now use some kind of synthetic grease which wouldn't stiffen at low temperatures. Should be good for 25,000 miles.
