6v-92 color question

 I noticed sometimes on when you look at adds for buses it will state 6v-92 silver. What does the silver color stand for is this a hp rating for different kinds of motors
the one that is in bus is silver or does it stand for a rebuilt motor

Detroit made some changes to the 6/8V92 over the years and the Silver edition was one of the later models with all of the updates.  An engine painted silver may not necessarily be a Silver edition.  If your 6/8V92 is a 'Reliabilt' by Detroit, it should have all of the updates.

The guys at Stewart&Stevenson called mine a "green block" altho it was painted silver. The green block was pre-May '81 and the Silver after that I believe.

I remember a bus mechanic telling that a red block was bad and to be avoided.  Don't remember any details.

How do you tell the difference between the silver and green 92TAs?

Look at the serial numbers:

Silver 6V92TA began with F83425
Silver 8V92TA began with F73594
