Can't get my 1992 MCI to start

Been trying to get my MCI with a Detroit 8V started and can't get it to fire. We have tryed using starting fluid and checked the fuel levels in all filters and tank and that seems to be fine, any suggestions on what to look at next?

When you turn the key on, do the check engine light and stop engine lights come on and then go off after about 10 seconds?

No key just a step switch and a starter switch then the push button to start. engine light stays on gen light stays on.

No one has any help for the newbie! Just kidding, This is a tour bus that is used by a non profit youth group and they are running out of time to get this resolved, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are all of the engine controls on the rear electric control box in the proper positions?

Leaving the ignition turned on up front, try a rear start?

Thank you, Ive looked at all of the switches to make sure they were in the proper location, but thank you for the suggestion.

OK newbie I'll try!  (boy are you in trouble now!)

First off if it's an automatic transmission try jiggling or shifting the shifter while trying to start it.

If that doesn't work go to the rear (leave your switches on in the front) and try starting it from the control panel in the engine compartment.

Other than those to suggestions it takes more answers from you to diagnose.

Thank's everyone BK is the man, I called him and he gave me a few area's to look for electrical problems.

He is working with a '92 MCI 8V92 which is most likely a DDEC unit.

I asked him about the top of the engine between the belts and he said there is a "grey box with wires going into it."

That leads me to believe it's a DDEC. (that and the yr model)

And as we all know the DDEC fuses (and there connections) have been know to be the culprits in these instances quite often.

So I advised him to locate, check and clean the fuses/holders to ensure that power is indeed getting thru them.

He will do that when he gets back to the bus.
So we will wait and see.


One other note I forgot to mention on the phone Larry is to be sure that the engine run/stop switch in the rear is indeed in the run position. 
other wise some units will crank all day long and never hit, while some won't even turn over.

when you turn ignition switch on do guages register?   If not turn on of a couple times till they do. If that don't work call me and I'll walk you thru that problem. 812 449 8263
