Just like anything else there are a lot of opinions.  Before I would commit $15K to my Bus I would look around and see what else is available. A new $15K engine in my Bus would be throwing $15K away. It wouldnt make it worth a dime more to anyone. I could scrap it for $3-4K and with that $15K for an engine go look for a better deal. And that Alaska trip? If I blow the motor up there and find I need a new one, we'll likely just go home in the towed and say goodbye Bus. As much as I like these Buses, they are only tools. There is no need to get so passionate about them they cost us more than their worth. The fuel cost is bad enough.

Paul, you really need to start reading some of this bull sh*t you blather about before passing it off as advice from an experienced busnut.

Really? oh Really?
Really!

 Spoken like a true busnut ::) :o

Hello all,
Thanks for all the info!
We are in Sebring, FL and have another thread going about our blown engine.
We've decided not to repair.
I'm going to check some of these links, we'll see.

Any bus at  Goodson bus sales.  Let me know and I will give it a good look. From a old bus nut not a mechanic.

Also know a good mechanic to give one a good check.

Decided to repost this here as well:

Lord family,

My wife kids and I have logged over 60k miles traveling from Church to Church and playing basically everywhere they'd let us play just like you folks. I don't have bunks but I have a bus that sleeps 5-6 comfortably with an 8v71. We are checking if it's okay with our insurance guy and if it is, and,  if you'd be willing to do all the necessary legal mumbo jumbo (since you're traveling and "making" money using the bus you'd have to have the proper insurance, licensing etc.) we'd be willing to lend you our bus until you are able to get yours sorted out.

send me a PM and I'll give you my number to discuss further.

Rick

Hi Lord Family.

How about a brand new DD Series 60 on the cheap? They appear to be brand new and the auction ends in a day or two. Engines are located in North Alabama.

Not sure about any conversion issues...

Unless it states brand new it isn't. The government doesn't usually rebuild in certain situations. They take one out and install another one. Usually they have something wrong. Just look at the 8V92's on the auction site, probably 100 of them just sitting. No body wants them.
