allison 730 transmission

This question is for any of you that have a 730 Allison trans. How long after shutting off the engine does it take to drain the tork converter to the point that it will not drive without running it in neutral for a few minutes? My trans seems to drain real fast. If I stop for fuel I have to run for two to three minutes before the bus will move. Is there a check valve in it that is supposed to hold it in the converter?

Sounds like a filter or pump problem to me what say you guys with the V730 I never saw one that the converter drains

I was told Allison guru that a 740 takes over night. He said best time to change the fluid was first thing in the morning before you start the engine that way you empty the torque converter allso

Denny ! My V730 in a4106 will drain back in the same time frame as yours. Know of a few others that are exactly the same. 06 Bill

Why does his take so long to pickup the 4106's and 4905's I been around they take off instantly no waiting 2 or 3 minutes.

I spoke with my Allison guy he says the plate on the converter the O-rings are bad or the bolts have come loose is what causes that they ware a indent into the converter or the plates

My 06 will take off right away but with lots of converter slip for 30 secs. or so. 06 Bill

Mine has never done this even after sitting over a month?

Never heard of this problem with a 730? However, mine doesn't shift like others either!!

Don't believe it is converter slip-but just plainly the fluid draining back into the pan. When warm, my V730 needs about 30 seconds of fast idle before it will clunk into gear. If it doesn't noticably move the bus when it goes into gear, I know it isn't ready to go and have to fast idle it again. Not a big deal, but just a nature of the beast. My HT740 will do that also. Tom - that is exactly what mine does. I can tell it is not ready to go if if doesn't clunk when I put it in drive. I am feeling like this might be normal. I am getting all of my worries out of the way now so I can relax next year when we go back to Alaska. It is about a 10,000 mile round trip for us from So. Cal.
