Generator Engine Replacement

I may have a 10Kw generator arriving here shortly. Its a 16Hp Vanguard powered direct-drive type with electric start.

I may attempt to replace the engine with a 2 cylinder Kubota watercooled diesel that my bus mechanic has just 'laying around'; then install the entire affair in one of my bus bays.

I believe the gas powered gennie (likely) runs at 3600rpm, but the Kubota would likely be happier at 1800rpm.

What happens if I spin the generator rotor at only half recommended speed? Will I get usable power from it? How much?

Thanks!

Mark

AC Hertz, or cycles, drops with rpm and thus the output power would be unusable.
Bus polygamist. Always room for another, especially '04 or '06 are welcome. NE from Chicago, across the pond.

The 2 cylinder Kubota  engines are happy running at 3600 rpm

If the Kubota is happy at 3600rpm, then I'm probably gonna have a used twin gas engine for sale   ;D

Thanks for the replies.
