Since I already have the top end rebuild kits for all three cylinders I am gonna go see if this thing turns with the clutch engaged and if it seems to work (the system is out of freon so I'll have to be quick about seeing if the clutch engages) I'm gonna buy it, help the guy pull it and throw my rebuild kits in it and hope for the best.

With rebuilt ones at $1600 and only a one year warranty and 5 months of winter ahead I am leaning on taking my chances.

It seems that most of the problems folks have with these systems is leaks and condensors more than the actual compressor. Is that a fair assumption?

How do you guys feel about a RTO over a rebuild? Keep in mind they do everything  to it. Rods, pistons, crank all new.

Rick I just sold a good used on for 300 dollars last week..didn't know you still needed one..when you get compressor out smell oil and ck color..should run out lines when you tip it over..burned or black pass..? sorry didn't read all of post about freon etc..just remember the otr air is one of the most expensive to maintain..can buy alot of gen fuel for dollars..Bob

I just had my otr compressor replaced and system gone over. Yes it cost me over $4000 but I like to have good air and heat while traveling. What happens when the generator fails on a trip and now you can't power the roof tops while traveling. It gets hot real fast in these buses with no air and very limited access to open windows while moving. I will have both knowing I have a back up. Sure you can put in a small dash unit system but that is going to cost and it will never cool the coach if your out west in the summer like in Arizona when it is 112 during the day. Just my preference.

Well I bought the 05G today and it was the 41 CFM model which is nice step up from my old compressor yeehaw! I pulled the heads and installed the new kits but to be honest the thing was so clean I felt bad putting the new kits in. I have to check the manual to see what the recommended torque setting is. The oil looks new, it's so weird how clean these things stay because they aren't combusting fuel. I am excited to get it put in the bus and get some 134 refrigerant in. I have to admit the compression gaskets had me a little confused but I spoke to a freind and he advised me on how to install back to back dual head gaskets. I had to mic the thickness of the reed valves because they had .014 and .018 thicknesses in the kit to choose from. All mine were the .018 thickness. Also for those who take this on make sure you match the oval pin cutout on the reed valve to the oval pin cutout on the retainer bracket.

And it has to be medical room clean in your shop. I washed my hands numerous times and cleaned my bench alot and I also used compressed air to remove any dust out of the cylinders while working on the 3 heads.

A couple more good hours of work installing this thing and I'm looking forward to that 8 ton A/C unit freezing us out again

108 in AZ and snow in Montana last week. What the heck is going on with the weather?

On a side note Clifford, I found a TV 7101 for the "I'm gonna stuff a turbo on my 8v71 if it kills me this winter" project.

And it might just kill me... Curt at Central Diesel doesn't like the idea at all. He's convinced I'm gonna blow up my motor. I have to check my injectors this weekend and find out from you or Don if I have to go with larger injectors. I'm betting that I will have to go larger because more air means more fuel right?

The NA block doesn't have the plumbing for an aftercooler does it? Sure would be nice if it did.

BTW do I have to rerun the rack if I change to larger injectors?

Could be a after cooler block look and see if you have a plate with 2 bolts in the front on the block in front of the blower if so it will take a after cooler let me know and I will send you one ,yea you will need to run the rack and do the timing.
You won't hurt the engine if you keep the boost low 10 to 15 lbs, 25 lbs will do you in

good luck
