Air Leak on Prevost

I have the XL home now, it was a nice easy 120mile ride home with no incidents and she ran great up the few hills we encountered. Now to learn how to drive a bus stick it is completely unlike any truck I have driven!

I notice she is airing over 24 hours.  Looking around I found a pressure regulator and control valve above the door, and air is blowing out unless I turn the valve off. Is this for the belt tensioners?

Also I want to take it to the truck wash and clean her top to bottom, bays, engine, body, etc. So far she is not showing much rust damage in the usual areas I have read about. But once I get the 20 years of grime and mud off her it may be a different story :) Apart from battery and electrics is there any areas I should avoid with a pressure washer?

Thanks

Ted

Yes that valve is for belt tension!  20 years old? which model?  Cleaning can never be bad, just don't wash the electrical compartments, hand clean them and check wiring connections with a screw driver for tightness!  Have fun!

Thanks! I am heading out now to pull that valve apart and start cleaning out the bays ready for some soap and water. Of course it's alberta so it's decided to turn cold this weekend!
I'll tape and polythene up all the electrics and alternator before I start.

Thanks MD!

Your air valve has a couple of "O" rings in it.   The valve may be fine.   The problem could be the air cylinder leaking air past the seals, and back to, and out, the valve.

Don't take apart the valve - If the valve is exhausting your cylinder is leaking and needs new seals - HTH

Thanks Ed and Niles, it is the cylinder to the a/c compressor that seems to be leaking. Is rthere a rebuild kit and is this a DD part or unique to Prevost? I have a DD dealer about 30 miles away otherwise its a trip to Calgary.

I pulled mine apart got new o rings at the hardware store about 5 years ago it may be spring loaded I was able to take the end off and chuck it up in the drill press to compress and reload jut don't turn it on

I speak of something that I have no personal knowledge.  But beware of a truck wash.  I have read that they sometimes use an acid to wash trucks with and it doesn't play well with our paint, stainless and Al.  Somebody else jump in hear that really knows.

Eventer1 - any hydraulics place should have what you need or can do it for you - HTH

If you don't have a hydraulics shop close by, an air tool repair shop will probably also have what you need.
