My alternator pulley decided to make a break for it in the middle of Montreal yesterday morning.  I still have the pulley but there is a splined sleeve inside of it that is pretty wallowed out.  I called Luke, he is having a hard time finding the splined sleeve but he does have the special nut and tapered washer that locks the pulley onto the splined shaft of the DN50.  This is for the MC-5C, it's the 4 belt vee-belt setup.  If anyone has one and would be willing to ship it to me, in the event that Luke comes up dry tomorrow, I'd be very grateful.

One great thing about the mechanical 8V71 is that once it's going, it needs no electricity.  As long as you don't need to run the lights you can drive all day and the batteries hardly know you've done it.  So I stripped the old belts off, and carried on.  I'm now just outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia, in a campground for the next week or so.

Cheers, and thanks - Brian

Brian,

Sorry not to be able to assist, again, I have a 5C and have encountered your predicament twice. I think in my case the spline shaft sleeve has a shoulder which allowed the lock nut to bottom out before tightened... ???
Did the generator shaft get buggered up in the process ??  ? ?

Both of mine are like yours. I replaced my OEM alternator with a 24V 130 Amp truck alternator, maintaining some of the original cradle for a pivot mount. I did install a straight bar tensioner and deep 6'ed the air cyl. This new alt is air cooled, thus the oil cooling lines were removed, plugged. Likewise with the drain line to the pan.

If a replacement is needed in my case I have now a standard truck J130 IIRC, mount.

Best of luck.

Another source to try is J & R Rebuilders Alternators / Generators in Laurel Springs NJ, 856-627-1414.
They used to keep a DN50 fully dressed on the shelf for a customer.

I will check the hanger tuesday AM for what I may still have on hand, and if still useable.
