Why did my hobbs hour meter on my generator go from 486.0 to 5.6??  There is no method to change the display.  Am I going crazy?/ ???

About 2 hours East of ATL on I-20 and 4 miles south of I-20.
Got Electricity and Water for 4-5 coaches.  Less that a mile to a
dumpstation.  Stop by and sit a spell.

For what ever reason it picked up the automatic reset mode I had one do that before

good luck

Is it possible to 'un-reset' it?
What triggers an 'automatic reset' ?

This is another good reason to keep a log book with notes about the condition & readings of the machinery before & after each trip.

It'd be hard to keep up with the service on the unit if it resets & you don't catch it.

John,

When something like this happens with aircraft we just make a note in the maintenance log and go ahead. However, we use mostly mechanical hobbs working on an oil pressure switch so they don't do that reset act. However, when they have to be replaced, we just use the maintenance log system.
