MC 8 Auxilliary Fuel Tank

How do you activate or utilize the diesel fuel stored in the 36 gallon auxilliary tank. I have a 1975 MC 8 w/ DD 8V71 engine.

It takes care of itself.

Plumbed into main tank via pipes underneath and a breather across the top.

Always connected, fills and empties with the main tank.

It lives inside the "box" in the first bay, against the rear wall.

i wonder if the aux tank can be re plumbed and used as a gasoline tank for a generator without much trouble? anyone ever done that?

would have to empty main tank and auxilary tank and plug bottom connections...really not worth the time and effort.also not a good location for gas tank.

where else would you put a gas tank? i don't think you would really want it hanging under the bus. the bus is pretty low as it is. it's gotta go somewhere. suggestions?

A gasolene tank compartment should be sealed and vented through the bottom of the compartment (gasolene fumes are heavier than air and will settle to the bottom of the compartment). That is why boats have bilge blowers. I have seen gasolens tanks installed in the OEM AC condenser compartment, behind that mesh door. Jack

i would like to install a genset in the condenser compartment. I don't think there is enough room for the genset and a gas tank in there, so i may have to re-think my strategy. depending on the generator i end up getting, it might not fit there anyway. when i get the bus to the place where i will be working on it, i will have to investigate it further. let the fun begin!!

On our MC-8, we removed the OEM heater core and AC evaporator and used that compartment (in front of front baggage bay) for our generator fuel tank. We cut vent holes in the floor and sealed the tank with a vent tube that goes through the floor and a fill on the outside of the bus. Jack

I just got done putting my generator gas tank in the little compartment under the drivers seat where the washer jug is. I used my old OEM bathroom water tank and moved my washer jug sideways and it fit right in, then I used the little door right above it in the SS where there use to be a electrical plug and put the filler there and you never know it's in there. I used the stainless water tank also placed in last bay (utility bay) I have the whole bay vented for all types of smells and fumes.use a exterior fill that also contains a vent to gas tank(hose)..My gen is gas and uses a elect pump which I relocated to near the tank to push to gen set...Just how I did it..Bob

do you still have access to the steering components from the access door, or is the tank now blocking that? i wonder how big of a tank could fit in the evap/heater core compartment? might as well use up the wasted space, it would be inaccessible with the bay full of cargo anyway.

Yes you can still get to all the stearing components to grease and inspect. Jason

Our tank is approx. 25 gallon. We used a tank we already had. If I had a tank custom made I probably could have increased the capacity to 40-45 gallons. Jack

on the topic of auxilliary fuel tank has any one ever thought of using the tank on a 04 that ran the pony motor for the air conditioner for a auxilliary.

ps mine is full of diesel on the way home from Jackson Tenn. My baby brother who was kind enough to come and drive me home. Filled it up and then came in and said it only held 19 gallons . I then realised what he had done.
