Re-flooring my 4104.

Hi All,

I replaced my mufflers this past winter and in doing so ended up tearing out my whole floor and rear bedroom after discovering how bad the carpet and underlay were.  Ended up down to the original black plywood floor.  Yes, even peeled off the original vinyl!

After a lot of second thoughts of what I was getting into decided I on lino.  Before I could do that though, my sister-in law mentioned last week that they had a bunch of 3 1/4x 3/4" hickory left over from building their house.  I was at her house within a quarter of an hour.  Got my new floor!

pics look good and so does the floor! One thing I wish you would have done though is come here before starting! I might have talked you into putting it in your bus laid on a 45 degree angle! It would look more modern and it sort of takes away the bowling alley look ut other than that.... keep up the good work!


After looking at the pics again, I need to ask, was it necessary to nail this type of flooring? I think it would have worked out better without nails and full spread a wood adhesive! Less squeeks and less work!

Thanks...the price is key!!  That's one of the reasons I nailed it.  Adhesive is expensive.

Aron,that is a nice floor I need to redo my floor the stone is cracked in a few places, ? is that a engineered wood flooring.
I was leaning toward a engineered wood floating floor with clips you know anything about the clips on floors I cannot use the adhesive because of the wife's problems with chemicals and she doesn't want any type laminate flooring. nice job

Don't let the adhesive scare you with any odors that you may think are harmful! Most odors are from drying agents and preservatives until they are exposed to the atmosphere and once dried which is under the flooring, the agents are gone! Times have changed from years ago when deady chemicals were widely used! Not today!

Just a tip, based on my experiences.  We installed Australian Cypress flooring by nailing it, using a floor nailer. We placed nails every 4" and still ended up with an occasional squeak when walking on the floor. If I was doing it again, I would put a layer of 15# felt paper between the flooring and the sub flooring, or add some glue, relying on the nails to hold the flooring in place until the glue set up.  Jack

Hey Lbus,

It's solid wood flooring.  I guess I'll find out what how the floor works long-run.  As my wife pointed out, "it's an organic material, it will change".  I think she's right...actually btw she is right but I'd never admit it!   Thats part of the appeal I guess of wood I guess.

One thing is for sure, it drastically improves the look of the bus getting rid of the old carpet.
