The STOP engine light (the critical light, not the check engine light) is 2 flashes, then a pause. Followed by 5 flashes.

The CHECK engine light is the exact same.

Does anybody know what the codes are?

Okay, so the first two flashes equal the 2 in twenty five. And then the five flashes equals the 5.

John,

From your description, I take it you have only one light. Not a separate Stop Engine light and Check Engine light. Is that right?

If so, I would presume you have a DDEC IV that has combined active codes and inactive codes. That is good in that it clears the electronic and much of the mechanical part of the engine.

Did you take the readings after the engine shut down for the day? If so, I would take code reading again when it will not start. Engine cold. If you don't get a code 38 at that time, it is likely not a fuel issue.

One last suggestion: The next time it won't start (but will crank), switch ON the Engine Override switch. If it starts, you have a malfunctioning sensor or defective ECM.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. We do have TWO lights. A stop engine, and a check engine light. The code was the same on both. I checked it after it was shut down for the night. I will check it again when if it doesn't start. I did replace the ignition relay.

Also, great idea on the override button. That is good. We will check that out.
