I am wiring a tow dolly for lights. I have a light bar that goes on the back of my towd with running lights, brake/signal. What is required on the dolly itself. Is it only clearance lights or ??

Thanks

Fred Mc.

Clearance and marker lights are only required on vehicles over 80" wide, but I think it is a good idea to have lights on a dolly whether or not they are required in your state.  If your dolly is required to have it's own tag, then it probably needs a tag light.

I already have clearance lights on gthe dolly. I was wondering if you have to have brake and sighnal lights on the dolly as well. The towd is quite a bit narrower than the bus so the bus lights are clearly visible and of course I have a light bar on the back of the towd which has brake/signal/running lights.

Thanks

We use the magnetic lights that are placed on the back of the jeep, that meets the requirements here in michigan, it provides turn signals, brake lights and tail lights.  Our jeep is on a towbar, not sure what would be required on a dolly but if it has a license plate, the plate must be illuminated in most states, beyond that I'm not sure but I feel that more lighting is better than not enough and would give better peace of mind, especially in bad weather.

Also many times you will be towing the dolly without the towd, what then,??>>>Dan

The magnetic lights can be plopped onto the dolly from the car if you need to tow the dolly without the car on it, for me it's just an easy fix to an old problem.
