An electronic brake stroke monitor already exists and has been available for sale for almost a decade.

Spectra products Brake Inspector, video demo online

The manual, look underneath version is Brake Safe, same

Only trouble with this site is they don't list dealers or current prices.

I'm also a user of their Termin-8r spray, penetrant and corrosion inhibitor. Big Transit here has replaced dielectric grease with this spray.

Brake Safe is used all over the place, and is my preferred product choice for brake stroke indicators, since they cannot be tampered with without the driver plainly seeing the vandalism. The universal ones that you adjust to the proper settings can easily be changed by road debris or tampering fingers.

I've seen the in-cab Brake Inspector in action and am very impressed, of particular note to a busnut, this thing confirms a proper release of every chamber, every time.

There is a great risk of sticking mechanical parts in a bus conversion, due to the sitting around we are prone to doing. A dragging tag axle or DD3 brake can at the minimum cost you a brake reline, at worst, burn out your coach.

I was offered a system for my coach back when it first came out somewhere 2001 or so, for around $900, all the stuff, wires, plugs, brackets, the works. Foolishly, I didn't get it...

As soon as all this post secondary schooling for those-three-who-will-choose-my-nursing-home gets paid for....I'll be adding this wonderful bit of technology to my coach.

happy coaching!
