It's not my money doing the project.  and how many do you think you could ever sell...with the small group of owners.........someone who doesn't buck up on the project likely is not going to pay more for it down the road IMHO

kyle4501

If I was 'in the business', I'd have at least 5 exrtas made. It may take a couple of years, but they'd sell.

But then, what would I know, I'm not trying to be a source for GM parts.  ;)

and who would be buying these?
and

why would they not be smart enough to buy them themselves at the time of production rather than pay someones margin?

kyle4501

and who would be buying these?

Obviously someone on the short list of owners of the 210 scenicruisers  ;D
Who are interested in helping preserve them.

Maybe because they don't like inference that they are stupid since they aren't buying them on your schedule.

Maybe they figure you're padding the margin already

Maybe their budget is limited

Maybe they are more interested in other projects right now

Maybe they don't know for sure that they need it.

The list could go on. . . .

Here's a thought, publish the breakdown of cost of tooling & the raw part cost & the handling cost. If this forum forbids it, there are other places that dont & can be referenced from here. A 'finders fee' can be rendered to MAK from each successfull sale . . .

when someone is having something custom made it is logical to hop on board if they want the same thing.  not doing so may not be stupid but surely they would not be the brightest apple in the bushel

Is that directed at me?  If it was my money doing the deal, and if I was fronting money I would certainly make a few bucks at the deal.

Maybe their budget is limited

Limited Budget, if it is that limited the thing is never going to get restored or they really don;t need the part.  Sometimes when you need something and someone is offering to have some made you need to find the money or do without

Maybe they are more interested in other projects right now

Could be but again, it's not like the opportunaity shows itself often....if ever again.

Maybe they don't know for sure that they need it.

If you don;t know you need it you likely don;t, unless your wanting a spare....again, gotta sieze the opportunity

I am now getting more involved in the Restoration Project of Roy Hall's Scenicruiser
as well as searching for Skylights for it and the Mack MV-620 (same glass)

I am being compensated by both parties for my work/oversight/scrounging for parts)  Both parties are not looking to wait around for months/years for others to hop on board if we have things produced.

It will be a one time deal and they then will own the tooling/molds etc.

teke,
I was just trying to shed some light on the possible reasons for the lack of enthusiasm on your offer.

To offer one possible example of 'not knowing they need it' -
The rubber entry treads look good, so good that they are the best part of the bus. Mr. enthusiast (who is enjoying his time spent on his hobby restoration) is inspired to clean, paint & repair the rest of the interior. After a couple of years of cleaning & tinkering, to his surprise & delight, everything turns out better than expected. So much so that now the rubber floor that looked so good at the beginning of the project is now the only thing not perfect. This is just one example of why he didn't know he needed one.  ;D

You know, there are many ways to do something, not just your way. Just because someone doesn't agree or isn't on your schedule doesn't make them any less smart.

And, no, the padded margin wasn't directed at you - but if the shoe fits .  .  .

Nice display of compassion for others, shows real class & professionalism.  ;)

BTW, it's been said that more bees are attracted with honey than vinegar . . . .  :o
