Hi All

First - let me apologize for posting this question on Both the BNO and here - I hate when others do that - but I need to get max coverage on this DDEC question

When using the DDEC Diagnostic Request Switch to Flash out the DDEC errors codes on the dash lights - Is there any way to tell the:

Historical DDEC codes - those errors that are logged to memory but
are no longer active errors or causing a current problem

and

Active DDEC errors - those that are causing the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO
STAY ON

Someone once told me that history codes flash on the STOP ENGINE
and ACTIVE codes flash on the Check Engine light -- WRONG

I can force an active TPS DDEC error 22 by pulling the connector off my throttle - only the check engine light flashes - Check engine light on constantly - diagnostic switch flashed all errors on the check light (active #22 and all History codes)

someone told me to leave the batteries disconnected for 24 hours to
erase historical codes -- wrong - tried that - that doesn't work
either

I certainly don't want to go out and buy a PROLINK and DDEC cartridge
just to see my ACTIVE errors separated from my historical errors - or
just to reset my history codes

nor do I wish to buy the cheaper / less functioning PDL (Pocket
Diagnostic Link adapter and software to run on a PALM Pilot - just to
see the error codes separated - the only parm that the PDL can change
is to reset the historical code - Big Deal for a lot of money

If you ain't part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.

Pete, you need a DDR to remove the codes  diconnecting the battery won't do it

Pete, If you do not have a check lite on and you read the codes, they are historical. If you have a check lite on and you flash the codes, the problem code will always flash first. My Detroit dealer never charges me to clear the DDEC, it only takes a minute. Its been a couple years now and I am holding 3 codes that all have to do with having trash on the roadway cut down my hydraulic fan drive belt.

Hi Pete.
If you have DDEC 2 : You will NOT be able to flash active code, MUST use a Prolink to read it.
You WILL be able to flash historic codes ONLY. You MUST use a Prolink to clear any codes, unlike DDEC 1 where disconnecting battery would clear codes.
If you have DDEC 3: You can flash inactive (no longer called "historic") codes on the check engine light, and flash active codes on the stop engine light. You still must use a ProLink to clear any codes.
You probably have DDEC 2.
Hope this may help you.
