First snowfall of the season today here in Indianapolis.  On Hwy 65 north of the city a Grayhound bus has slid off the road no one hurt.

Also one about 60 miles north of that one 19 people are reported hurt. Fox news has reported this!

Doesn't seem much like its been a good year for the Ol' Hound.

When Cat and I lived in Florence, SC., we would see a grey puppy either broken down or with an engine fire at least once a week on I-95.

In the late 60's and early 70's I use to ride the hound quite a bit.
Usually I had to ride on a 4104 or a 4106 (  :P ) but the real thrill was that every once in a while the PTB's would stick a PD4501 Scenicruiser on the run.

I know the driver hated it because the roads were twisty and turney and very narrow with lot's of logging trucks going both ways, but I thought it was cool.

Those buses, even the Scenics, were well maintained, clean and pretty, even though some of them were reaching the end of their lifespan with Greyhound.

Now if you go to your local terminal, you'll see coaches in service with lights out, dents in bay doors and corners, scratches, scrapes, smoke and oil marks all over the back end.

Sad to see an Icon go into the garbage, all for the bottom line.

Hey Dallas -

How come you're stickin' your tongue out at the Sports Car of Coaches (4106), eh?

Have to agree with Tekebird, though - once the hot dog salesman took over Blue Pooch, things went downhill fast.

I wasn't sticking my tongue out at 4106's... I was sticking my tongue out at 4104's and 4106's. They weren't 4501's!

There's nothing like riding on the upper deck, along a narrow 2 lane canyon road in Idaho, watching the trees, and the river and the animals pass by.
It was almost like being in a railroad observation car!

On that topic, of the state of Greyhound, did anyone see their new TV ads?

They show what looks like a MC-12 pulling into a Bus-stop, the driver goes inside, then a pit crew comes out and transforms it into a new 102, smooth sided bus.

I guess they're trying to improve their image.

They also mentioned "new, modern bus stations".

Dallas: one question on your comment: "There's nothing like riding on the upper deck, along a narrow 2 lane canyon road in Idaho, watching the trees, and the river and the animals pass by."
Who drives your bus for you??? ???
One of things I love most about my '06 is that I do the driving.   8)   I guess those 4501's are too tough to handle. :P

Jim,
Unfortunately, I don't have a Scenic. I'm stuck with my itty bitty PD4103, which leaves me as the driver. That 33' long set of shifting rods is a bit difficult for Cat (my wife) to deal with.

I was actually talking about the rides I took on the Scenics when I was still too young to have a bus of my own.  :D
