Hi all, wondering what some of you are using for lights on your toad?  We have a MCI 9 and are towing a car and are using the magnetic light set up.

Thanks for any info.

Mine are wired into the Explorer's own tail lights using diodes. Work great. Info on the diodes used in the first explorer we
pulled at http://www.gumpydog.com/bus/Toad/Taillight_Wiring/taillight_wiring.htm.  The new Explorer has essentially
the same setup.

I use a converter I built to convert from 24v to 12v. There's info on it at http://www.gumpydog.com/bus/MC9_WIP/Electrical/Tail_Light_Converter/tail_light_converter.htm.

I love this setup. It's quick and easy. Plug in and go. No fiddling with stuff.

I use two sets of the magnetic lights with LED's.  The car was wired to have the lights work through the car's lights, but never was able to make them work right.  Like the brightness of the LED's and the fact that the lights can be used on another vehicle if necessary.  It takes 10 minutes to set up.  Good Luck, TomC

In my Jeep GC there was an un-used light cell in the tail light assembly and went to NAPA and bought 2 bulb sockets and some wire to run to the fornt of the jeep and a plug .... no diodes all seperate sytem from jeep tail lights.

George & Barb,   We also had lights wired to the car's system but did not like the brightness.  I now have the magnetic type (4),  that were wired to the harness that was in for the diode system.  Only use the one towed so the lights are wired permanently and remain in the trunk.   I still am concerned about how well they are seen,  so I have been putting them in the rear window lately.  I feel that towed lights are important and am considering more/better lighting.      Denis

I've considered building a light bar that would fit the receiver hitch in the Explorer to give me more lights on the rear. I think I could plug it into the trailer socket on the Explorer and it would be powered just like the tail lights. Not sure on that one, though. Thought I'd make it come up towards the top of the explorer and split to either side, in a Tee form. Then attach
red LED lights along the Tee. If I did it right, it could fold up fairly small, and just need a simple trailer plug to connect it.

Still just a thought.
