Gauge question?

My speedometer stopped working so I bought a new Dixon and pickup including wires, installed them and went for ride of course it does not work! Dallas and his darn Gremlins!
My bus is a 79 MCI5C 6V71 auto. The dash and gauges are all stock and gauges all say MCI on them except for old speedo which had the letters KK on it.
I notice that the oil pressure gauge, water tempature gauge and fuel gauge all show a reading with the power off. I think the fuel gauge always had a reading with the powere off, but I'm not sure. I have no idea if the oil pressure gauge and fuel gauge showed a reading or not.
I'm thinking I miswired something so I undo everything I did. the fuel, water temp and oil gauge still show a reading?
I have the oil pressure gauge out with no wires attached to it, it is showing 50 lbs of pressure. Should these gauges return to zero with the power off? Did I cross wire something and burn it out?
Now Dallas is probobly wondering how he got involved in this, well the old speedometer quit working when I left Timmonsville!
Any and all replies grately appreciated!

Jim,

A lot of gauges don't have a RTZ (return to zero) function.

I would guess this is normal on yours.

Jim,
No problem. I have broad shoulders as well as a broad belly.

I think your problem started when you replaced the vent pipe at Timmonsville. Are you sure the gauge is a speedometer? or is it really just to see how fast you flush?

If nothing else, NCbob gave me the Keinzle Tachograph out of his MC5, we could slap that in there!

I hope everything else is going well for you guys, have fun on your run,
