11R 24.5 tire prices?

What is a good price for 11R 24.5 tires?  A local tire shop has new take offs for sale. They are some odd ball from overseas, came on a new International thanks to the Goodyear strike. Years ago I knew people who drove to Ohio to buy them for the prices, not sure if that is an option anymore. Thanks Tom Y

Tom, I paid $100 each for Goodyear steers with better than 50% tread and less than 2 years old- HTH

I got a price on the new takeoffs of 250.00 each. They are Double Coin  made in China.  Has anyone heard of these?  Thanks Tom Y

The fact you are looking for tires is really encouraging.  I assume you are getting much closer to getting your bus back on the road!  Get that wiring done!

6 new Michelin XZE 16ply 11R-24.5 (regional tires with reinforced sidewalls and rock rejection technology).  Mounted, balanced, tax-out the door, $2,950.00, or $492.00 each.  I'd personally stay away from China tires.  They look good, but remember tires are more than big black things that are round, roll and can support the bus.  EVERY tire model that is made for big rigs have a specific mission in life.  For instance on Michelin tires- XZA3 is a fuel efficient line haul steer tire; XDA3 is a fuel efficient line haul drive tire; XTE is a line haul trailer tire; XZE is an all position regional tire for lots of turning and scrapping; XDE is a regional drive tire; XZA1 is a bus tire for over the road; XDA-HT is a high torque tandem drive tire; XD4 is a single drive axle high torque drive tire; XZY-3 is a on/off road steer tire; XDY-3 is a on/off drive tire; X-One are the new low profile over the road super single drive tires for tandem drives; XT-One is the trailer version of the super single, etc.  So you see a small portion of the tires designed for specific applications.  Please consider that when specing new tires for your bus and many times, low price should NOT be the only consideration when your butt is in the drivers seat with many times your family members riding along.  Good Luck, TomC

Tom Y, I'd stay away from the Double Coins for a few reasons. They show a lot of wear patterns fast and deep in the tread. Suggests a weak steel structure to me. I think if you want the best steel in a tire you have to look elsewhere as China is still evolving. I know Japan is known for their steel but I can't remember about France. Double Coin is popular in applications where theft is prevalent such as Pier chassis.

Thanks, I will take the advise here and pass. I think I will look for a better grade of tire. Brian, its going slow but I want to be able to move it out this summer and work out side.  And I don't have any tires now.  Thanks Again. Tom Y

A local dealer here priced new Double coins with hiway tread at $238 and with rib tread at $243. Abetter japanese tire at $265  and $282. Abetter tire was priced at $307.     Jerry

Jerry, These where ribbed tires  RR300 I think and 250.00 mounted and balanced. I am hopping to back my bus out of the garage for its 4th year aniversity. And yes I know my spelling stinks, you should see my typing. Tom Y
