VS overdrive

Our fishbowl has the VS transmission, modified by original owner. It has a overdrive switch on dash my question is what is the transmission doing when in overdrive mode?

It goes to a higher gear ratio that allows the engine to spin at a lower RPM while the coach is traveling faster..>>>Dan

That's all the VS had: one to get it going, one to keep it going.

Direct and overdrive.

Previous owner likely rigged manual control so driver made the decision, not the machine, in hilly terrain.

Apologies, hydraulic and lock-up don't work their way into catchy phrases.

Starts in hydraulic direct, locks in direct, shifts to overdrive.

The switch is to allow the driver to downshift the overdrive when he wants to due to a hill instead of waiting for the transmission to do it.

Something to consider-I looked hard to find a bus with the V730. With 4.56 rears and 11R-24.5, my 60mph cruise is 1900. My shifter is R-N-3-2-1. I can hold in second lockup, and if I pull it down to 1st can get torque converter lockup as low as 20mph. Going up long hills, I sometimes throttle back (especially when hot) in first and go up the hill at 32mph at 2100rpm. The V730 is an HT740 without 1st gear. Can still get parts for the transmission too. Good Luck, TomC
