Hello,
I would like to install a small window in my bathroom.  Currently there are no windows there and the walls are in and wood paneling.  See pic. Is it as easy as cutting a hole and intalling a gasket and glass?  What else do I need to know?  Bad idea?

I would also like to put in a skylight above my kitchen.  Its dark in there!
Advice please!

It would be nice to avoid any vertical ribs and any possible wiring harnesses. The ribs should be easy if your skin is riveted. If not, you could try a stud finder. You could make the hole on the inside with a router with carbide bit and set the depth in small increments till you get through the inside layers to avoid any wiring. You could also try a multitool to carefully go through.

Back up all those new gaskets with premium quality caulking.

Leak insurance.

Easier to do it neatly while assembling, than later, when you find it leaking.

Happy coaching!

I like the rotozip idea. Start small and enlarge. Vibratool isn't bad either, just not as easy to get that first hole. Might even begin with a small drill bit or a screw. But knowing where the vertical supports are would be a big plus starting out.

I saw it on the Internet. It MUST be true...

Yes, I have rivets and can see the vertical supports.  Wiring is another story.  Now I just have to find a good (smallish) window and take the plunge.
Anything I need to know about cutting into the roof?
