Blew a steering line can I drive it?

My buddy blew a steering line on his 73 mci 25 miles from home. Can we un bolt pump throw a piece of tin over pump mounting and limp home? Hose is up underneath. Trying to assist by phone

I am no expert on this, but I would be afraid of burning out the pump if the lines were blown. Perhaps you can loop a hose around and fill it with fluid to limp her home using Strong Arm Steering like in the old days.

But we need to find out from some of these old(er) bus nuts if this is acceptable before trying something like this. Most of them are home from church by now, so someone should chime in soon and give us the real answer.

You could take off the pump and use a blockoff plate to cover the hole but seems like an awefule lot of work. You could get net hoses and just hang them on the outside also or like Gary said above make a loop back to the pump even a short one would work, but remember it is them Arm-Strong steering all the way home.

Remove the pump you cannot loop the pump be sure and remove the fiber drive or it will drop out and the gears will eat the 25.00 spacer,the pump shaft needs to be at a certain spot to remove it don't forget that or you will be using some bad words

Hoses are hard to come by on sundays. He is trying to get it towed back to his shop but it's been 3 hours and his insurance company hasnt found anyone yet. I would have went to help but had to leave town for work. He says the leak is over the axle. Hopefully they get it fixed tomorrow

He will if the shaft is not in the right position,because it is not coming off

Speaking of bad words, a couple of years ago I was in Phoenix in a 35mph zone and all of a sudden went past a 10 mph school crossing warning that was 300 feet from the crosswalk I got a ticket for speeding through the school crosswalk even though I got clocked 300 feet earlier. It was a double fine and I was using my best cuss words.

I drove 150 miles to protest in court and was found guilty. The cop repeated every cuss words I had used when I got the ticket.

Clifford why can't you make a short return to the pump. Seems like it would work. If pressure goes on one side and returns on the other. It is only taking out the steering box out of the loop. So why would that not work?

You loop it the pressure relief valve will lock the pump up

BTDT,with a return line back to the canister as you are describing it will work
