If I remember correctly someone posted a long time ago there was more than one steering wheel that fit MCI 9's {two different spline shafts for the steering wheel hub}. Does anyone know for sure what fits a 1980 MCI 9. I sure hate to spend a lot of time and find out what I'm going to do isn't going to work. Thanks.

What is it you want to do?

VIP sells one wheel, one size fits all.  They make different spline inserts for (almost) all coaches and trucks.

You can pull the center cap and measure with a tape. My 80 MCI is bigger than a Freightliner and a Gilig and they are bigger than a 97 Ford 9000.  Tom Y

My 1983 NJT MC9 has a 1 inch 36 spline shaft on the stock wheel. If that helps.

I ordered my wheel from VIP and they didn't offer an adapter kit, they built the wheel
with the hub attached permanently. It's much better if you get a measurement and tell
them the exact diameter you need.

Most are 36 spline but not all are 1 inch shaft.

At least they didn't do what both International and Freightliner did on the medium size trucks.  They both switched to a 72 spline shaft for the steering wheel.   VIP now makes a grand total of two steering wheels that don't look much different than stock.  Use VIP since they are approved for commercial duty.  Good Luck, TomC

Thanks guys, I have a spare wheel 1" x 36 spline that I am stripping all the plastic off of. I will then make a wood rim for it but didn't want to go to all the work and find out it doesn't fit. I can't check it now because there is about 2000 miles between me and my bus.

JDR, I looked at my 80 5C wheel and it is bigger than 1 inch. The threads are 1 inch and I think the wheel hub is 1.065. It is in a shed, so if you need I will get an better measurment. Would hate to see you do a wheel that would not fit.  Tom Y

Dr Dave, Do you mind giving out the VIP steering wheel model number for the 83 NJT MCI9 you ordered?
Thanks
