First power plant were 2 4-71's layed over in the back through a fluid coupling then a 3spd transmission with a 2spd rear end. It was extremely hard to drive. But the theory was that one of the engines could be shut down on the flat for better fuel mileage. When Detroit came out with the 8V-71, all were converted to the simple 4spd with single spd rear end. Since the drive axle is forward, there is room for just about any engine. I've seen Series 60, Series 50, Caterpillar 6 and V-8's, numerous models of Cummins. While the Scenicruiser is truly a unique bus, it is 96" wide, and limited on headroom. There were structural problems with cracking around the windows. With their unique windows, can be challening for a conversion. Good Luck, TomC

I believe they used the Hydrashift instead of a two speed rear. Two speed planetary unit in the bell housing. It was also optional in the 4104's.
