Understanding the DD-3 brake inversion valve

I would like to find out when MCI went to a secondary air tank for the front brakes on DD-3 equipped buses, and had the second inversion valve.  Certainly my 1980 did not have it, and I think they went to spring brakes around 1990 or so.  Be good to understand that change period.

The 1995 MCI still had DD-3 I am going to change to spring later this year
